Greetings,
Welcome to the official website of the Pasadena (CA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. — proudly known as the Rose City Nupes. It is an honor to serve as Polemarch of a chapter built on legacy, brotherhood, and service, and grounded in our fraternity’s charge: achievement in every field of human endeavor.
Our chapter was chartered on March 17, 1961, and the story of our founding still stands as a testament to vision and perseverance. The chartering ceremony and banquet were held at the Marino House in San Marino, California — and in that era, the very act of Black men coming together to host a formal ceremony in that space was an accomplishment in itself. With leadership from men like Western Province Polemarch Charles J. Sudduth, the installation of officers by Grand Vice Polemarch Thomas Bradley, Esq., and a keynote message on “Individual and Chapter Achievement” delivered by Brother Judge Bernard Jefferson, Pasadena Alumni began its journey with purpose and community improvement at the center.
Today, we continue that mission through mentorship, community service, and intentional leadership development. Whether we’re guiding young men toward excellence, supporting Pasadena-area seniors, or partnering with local organizations, our goal remains the same: to leave our city better than we found it.
We also take time to honor the shoulders we stand on. Celebrations of our chapter’s history — including fellowship with men like Dr. James Bolton, a 75+ year Kappa man, and Brother Anderson Pollard, a founding member who shared the chapter’s origin story — remind us that this work is bigger than any one man. It is generational, and it must be carried forward.
Thank you for visiting our site. Whether you are a Brother, a prospective partner, or a community supporter, we invite you to connect with us, support our programs, and walk alongside the Rose City Nupes as we continue building legacy through service.
Fraternally,
Jarvis Sams

It is with profound sadness that the Pasadena (CA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. announces the passing of our beloved Brother, Gerald K. Freeny.
Brother Freeny was a valued member of our Brotherhood, and we join his family, loved ones, and fellow Brothers in mourning his transition to the Chapter Invisible.
We are grateful for his life, his contributions to the Bond, and the Brotherhood of fraternity that we were privileged to share with him.
The Pasadena (CA) Alumni Chapter extends its deepest condolences to the family and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Additional information about memorial services and chapter observances will be shared as it becomes available and with the family’s permission.
